This session will explore the challenges Platige Studio had to overcome during the production of the nine-minute stylized animated film Lil’ Ruby in Unreal Engine. At the project’s inception, there were no real tools or clear paths to complete it efficiently. Attendees will hear how solutions were devised on the fly in response to emerging needs and challenges.

Additionally, attendees will:

– Come away understanding the general challenges that should be expected when making stylized animation in UE in a studio environment, both from a production and technology perspective.

– Learn the tools and solutions used to achieve a stylized 2D look in Lil’ Ruby.

– Get a look at the pipeline for handling over 130 shots between the previs/animation/lighting phases as well as the benefits of using UE versus a regular Maya/Arnold-based pipeline.
